Faculty, EHRA Non-Faculty and SHRA Staff Performance Management

Performance management is a shared understanding between the supervisor and employee to ensure both institutional goals and employees’ goals are tied to the college’s strategic goals and/or initiatives.

This policy does not apply to temporary employees. Only permanent SHRA staff, EHRA faculty and Non-Faculty and Postdoctoral Scholars receive Annual Performance Plans and Appraisals.

Faculty Performance Management

Reviews of all faculty-tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure track employees are to be conducted annually. Faculty performances are evaluated by the University Policy, Rules, and Regulations PRR.05.10.03 and Policy  POL.05.20.01.

SHRA Performance Management

Effective April 1, 2016, the UNC System implemented a new SHRA Performance Appraisal Policy to align performance management practices amongst the University of North Carolina System institutions.

The new SHRA Performance Appraisal Program places emphasis on both institutional goals and individual goals while streamlining the content of the performance plan, standardizing the categories for evaluation, increasing the accuracy and defensibility of performance ratings, and promoting effective communication between employees and supervisors.

The employee’s next level supervisor is expected to review for consistency to ensure that goals and performance expectations are appropriate and that ratings are being assigned accurately across work units and across supervisors within the same organization. As such, the next-level supervisor is expected to review and sign both the performance plan and the annual appraisal of each employee in their work unit before these documents are issued.
