Study Abroad

The Jenkins MAC Program study abroad trip to Prague provides students an opportunity to participate in an almost four-week international experience. The program takes place during NC State's Summer I semester.  Students have the opportunity to return to NC State for Summer II course work in Raleigh, if desired.

Summer in Prague

This study abroad opportunity is open to on-campus and online MAC students. Experience the beautiful city of Prague, Czech Republic while earning three hours towards your MAC degree—and enjoy the history and culture that this major European capital city offers.

Classes will meet over a four week time period for approximately four hours per day (Monday-Thursday). A multi-day in-country excursion to explore the Czech Republic is included.  Students will visit historical, cultural, and recreational sights on this trip.

Program participants will be housed in a University dormitory in Prague, and will receive transit passes to allow unlimited use of the excellent metro (subway) and tram systems that serve the metropolitan area.  Classes are held at the NC State European Center in Prague, an outstanding facility located in the historic Old Town district of Prague that features classroom space, a small computer lab, several kitchens, and a student lounge.  The Institute also offers Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Prague Study Abroad experience has been offered by the Jenkins MAC Program for fourteen years.  Current MAC students or newly admitted MAC students may participate.

How to apply

An NC State study abroad application must be completed by each participant.  Acceptance decisions will be based on date of application (that is, acceptances will be made on a rolling basis)—please apply early if you want to ensure that you will be selected.  The tentative enrollment cap is 12 students.

Apply via the NC State Prague website.

Cost

Total program costs for summer 2020 were $3,750 (net of a $500 MAC participation scholarship offered to all students). This covers the required Study Abroad office application fee of $450, graduate tuition, all housing, international medical insurance, all travel once in Prague and the Czech Republic excursion, and several cultural events in Prague.  Additional costs you will need to cover include airfare, meals, and personal expenditures. You will also need a valid passport to participate in this study abroad experience.
