Community Engagement

MAC students have the opportunity to engage with the community through real world projects in the classroom to service events in the Raleigh area. This involvement prepares Jenkins MAC students to be active and engaged employees after graduation.

CPA Day of Service

In 2012, then NC Governor Bev Purdue, signed a proclamation officially declaring September 21st, as CPA Day of Service. This event has taken place every year since on a Friday in September. Jenkins MAC students have been involved each year as well and have partnered with the NCACPA to help with various events in the Raleigh area.

This year, students partnered with Grant Thornton and helped at various locations on and off campus. In 2016, the program partnered with the NC State Sustainability Office to help clean up Lake Raleigh. Read more.

Financial Literacy

Each year MAC students that have entered the program with a job offer participate in a variety of financial literacy activities. These opportunities give them the chance to share their knowledge with the community and campus and shows them that giving back is important now and once they start their career.

Junior Achievement

The MAC Program has partnered with Junior Achievement of Eastern North Carolina for several years. MAC students visit nearby schools and teach children everything from how to save money to how to balance a checkbook. Students can volunteer for a few days over the semester or decide to participate in the JA in a Day program and spend a day in a classroom. Several accounting firms in the area have employees that are JA volunteers so students can continue to give back after graduation.

NC State – Dollars & Sense

Dollars and Sense at NC State is a financial wellness program committed to educating NC State students, faculty and staff on managing finances and addressing financial concerns unique to college life. The program equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain lifelong financial wellness.

MAC students volunteer to be peer financial coaches as part of the Dollars & Sense program. Undergraduate students sign up to meet with a coach one on one to go over financial topics that are important to them. The session is run by the MAC student and can cover anything from saving and budgeting to how to finance a car after graduation.

NCACPA

The North Carolina Association of CPAs has been a longtime supporter of the MAC Program. Representatives from the association speak to students at orientation and encourage them to become student members and to start networking with their professional members early. For the Fall 2017 semester, students will help support the TRIO program and have the chance to create their own financial literacy materials and work on their public speaking skills as they present to a group of their choice.
