3 Poole College Graduates ’70 ’88 ’14 Receive Black Alumni Society Legacy Award

This year’s Black Alumni Society (BAS) Homecoming Reunion Weekend marked the 40th anniversary of the organization, the longest standing constituency group of the NC State University Alumni Association. At the milestone weekend’s 40th Anniversary Gala, held at the Park Alumni Center, select recipients were given 40-for-40 legacy awards. Three Poole College of Management alumni were among the 40 honorees: Emerson Fullwood (Economics ‘70), Therence Pickett (Business Management ‘88) and Marshall Anthony (Business Administration ‘14). 

Poole College of Management alumni — 40-for-40 award recipients:

Emerson Fullwood

Mr. Fullwood earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from NC State University (in 1970) and an MBA in marketing from Columbia University. He retired from Xerox Corp. in 2008 after a 36-year career in various executive and general management positions, including director of large global office products and systems businesses, president of Xerox worldwide channels group, president of Latin America and executive chief of staff and marketing officer for Xerox North America.

Passionate about education and community, Mr. Fullwood has served on many higher education boards, including North Carolina A&T State University, University of Rochester, Roberts Wesleyan College, Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, Monroe Community College Foundation and Northeastern Seminary. He has also worked closely with organizations such as the Rochester Urban League, United Way of Greater Rochester and Rochester Boy Scouts of America. 

In addition, Mr. Fullwood and his wife, Vernita, have established endowments at various institutions, including Poole College, and worked with former Poole College deans to enhance external collaborations and educational opportunities for students.

Therence Pickett

Mr. Pickett is the senior vice president, general counsel and secretary at Mack Trucks Inc. and Volvo Group North America. A former member of the UNC Board of Governors, he currently serves on North Carolina Central University’s advisory board. 

He earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from NC State (in 1988) and a juris doctorate degree from Duke University’s School of Law. 

Mr. Pickett’s philanthropic work stretches from Union Square Campus in Greensboro and Duke law school to Poole College of Management, where he recently served as an alumnus judge for the annual Leadership and Innovation Showcase business competition. 

Marshall Anthony

While Marshall Anthony, Ph.D., is only a 2014 graduate of Poole College of Management, with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, he has developed a high-level career in education. 

He is currently a higher education research analyst at The Education Trust in Washington, D.C., and he previously held positions at the Florida Department of Education and Florida State University, where he earned his doctorate in higher education.

Dr. Anthony also holds a Master of Education degree from NC State. While at the university, he served as a graduate assistant, an academic coach and intern, putting valuable time and effort into mentoring students and contributing to the African American Cultural Center.
