3 Poole Students Honored at Chancellor’s Study Abroad Scholarship Reception

The recipients honored at the Chancellor Study Abroad Scholarship Reception

Students from across NC State’s campus gathered on February 7 to honor the recipients of the Chancellor Study Abroad Scholarship and share stories of their experiences abroad. Peter Chege, accounting; Jordan Lunsford, business administration; and Giullianna Figallo, business administration, represented the Poole College of Management at this year’s reception.

Study abroad is one of the most impactful experiences students can have at NC State.

The Chancellor Study Abroad Scholarship awards as many as 40 students a year with the opportunity to study abroad in the program of their choice. Students who apply submit essays detailing how studying abroad can impact their academic career and personal growth, as well as how they can use the experience to give back to NC State in hopes of receiving between $2,500 and $3,500 in scholarships.

“Study abroad is one of the most impactful experiences students can have at NC State,” said Warwick Arden, provost and executive vice chancellor of NC State. “Students who study abroad graduate with additional workplace skills.”

Poole’s recipients had varying global experience with Lunsford studying at Comillas Universidad in Madrid, Chege in Reutlingen, Germany, and Figallo at the NC State European Center in Prague. The reception gave them the opportunity to reconnect with classmates and share memories from their time abroad.

This scholarship opportunity allows students with underrepresented majors, ethnicities and backgrounds to make smart financial decisions and gain hands-on global experience.

“Making sure students have access to these [global] opportunities is critical and would not be possible without donors and the University Greatest Needs Fund,” said Ingrid Schmidt, associate vice provost for external relations and development in the Office of Global Engagement.
