Poole College Faculty and Staff Accomplishments for February and March

The internal monthly accomplishments series celebrates the achievements of our faculty and staff in and outside of the Poole College of Management. Faculty and staff have continued to work around the clock as the college and university face the challenges of COVID-19. 

February

  • Michelle Grainger was the keynote speaker at FoodCon 2020 where she emphasized the importance of agriculture in the North Carolina economy and how introducing farmers to business tactics can be impactful to creating smoother operations
  • Poole College celebrated Black History Month with a community lunch catered by DouNou, a black-owned catering business inspired by the flavors of West Africa.
  • Patrice Nealon and Thomas Byrnes helped the NC State AMA Chapter host the second annual regional conference on Feb. 8 where over 100 students across five universities competed for prize money.
  • Executive Education welcomed Rhiannon Williams to their team as program coordinator. In her role, Williams plays a critical role in the delivery, execution and evaluation of programs designed for NC State Executive Education. 
  • Jessica Thomas was featured on WUNC to discuss her personal life, career and her work with the BSC and B Academics. 
  • The Jenkins MBA team placed third in the NC State Grand Business Challenge presented by Merck & Co. This competition introduces MBA students from universities across the country to real-world business challenges using the pharmaceutical industry as the foundation for their development. 
  • The 2020 Spring Career and Internship Fair was held Feb. 14 with 97 employers and 785 students in attendance. 
  • Poole College kicked off the VITA Tax Return sessions in February where accounting students provided free online tax assistance for individuals and households.

March

  • Poole College announced Jenny Hammond as the new chief marketing and communications officer effective March 1. Hammond has been with the college since 2017, having most recently served as the interim director of marketing and communications.
  • The latest installment of the Wells Fargo Executive Leadership Series was held on March 4 featuring Sepi Saidi, founder and CEO of SEPI, Inc., a Raleigh-based consulting and design firm. 
  • NC State and Poole College announced a two-year partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina to deliver a series of seminars in data science, data analytics consulting, analytics-based product development and knowledge discovery. 
  • The Jenkins MBA online professional program was ranked No. 2 in North Carolina and No. 13 nationally by Online MBA Report
  • The U.S. News & World Report ranking showed a jump in the Jenkins MBA Program from No. 85 to No. 52 in their 2021 Best Graduate Schools. 
  • Rob Hanfield was featured on WRAL to discuss the state of grocery supply chains during the COVID-19 crisis.
  • Richard Warr and Roger Mayer’s research, “Do Pro-Diversity Policies Improve Corporate Innovation?“, was featured among the Financial Times’ ranking of business school research papers with social impact. 
  • The sixth annual Innovative Women’s Conference hosted by the Jenkins MBA Women’s Club was held virtually on March 20 to bring together the Triangle area community of women to encourage discussion and relationship building.
