A Message from the Global Luxury and Management Program

Due to the pandemic and resulting global economic depression, many universities are being forced to make difficult decisions when it comes to the future of their programs. Academic programs at NC State University are largely supported by state-appropriated funds, and the forecast for those funds over the next 12 to 18 months is not optimistic.

Because of the consequences of the global pandemic, the leadership of the Poole College of Management at NC State University has determined that the Global Luxury and Management (GLAM) dual-degree program no longer fits within the long-term goals for the College. The college will therefore not be admitting students for the 2021-22 academic year or thereafter.

The GLAM program has had many successes during its eight-year history with over 300 alumni who have been placed at firms such as Christie’s, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Estee Lauder, Ralph Lauren, and Tesla. Alumni have benefited greatly from the cross-cultural and international perspectives developed in the program, however, the Poole College of Management has decided the time has come for it to move in a different direction for its overall portfolio of graduate courses.

Moving forward, Poole will be placing greater emphasis in the coming years on delivering online programs geared to working professionals. The college has developed outstanding online Master of Accounting and MBA programs and will be leveraging those investments by allowing students to complete specialized degrees in areas such as marketing analytics and risk management. These programs will be more closely aligned to the mission of NC State University and the Poole College of Management.
