The monthly accomplishments series celebrates the achievements of our faculty and staff in and outside of the Poole College of Management. With final exams wrapping up, Poole College faculty and staff celebrate another successful month as we look forward to the college’s Virtual Commencement.
- Allison Lowe Reed, lecturer in economics, presented her research paper titled “Biomedical Engineering: The Emergence of a New Academic Field” at the Association of Public Policy and Management conference.
- Beth Ritter, professor of practice in human resource management, and Bob Clark, professor of economics, presented their co-authored research “Illuminating the Intersection Between Employers and Experienced Employees: Current Research and Policy Directions” at the Gerontological Society of America on Nov. 6.
- Bill Rand, associate professor of marketing, was invited to speakthe North Carolina Association of CPAs’ 81st Annual Symposium with his presentation of “The Power of Business Analytics”.
- The Executive Education team helped coordinate the Conference on Management and Executive Development the week of Nov. 16. Rhiannon Williams, program coordinator, co-presented the “Program Producer Role” session while Dan McGurrin, director of Executive Education, presented the “Partnering with the Leadership and Development Community” session.
- Tim Kraft, assistant professor of operations and supply chain management, recently received the 2020 Best Associate Editor award for Decision Sciences Journal.
- The Contemporary Accounting Research Conference invited Andrew Schmidt, associate professor of accounting, to discuss the paper “How well do effective tax rates capture tax avoidance” on Nov. 5.
- Jessica Thomas, director of the Business Sustainability Collaborative, presented for the Bank of New York Mellon Corporation on a monthly briefing call on Nov. 4. Thomas also presented at the B Corp Southeast conference on the “Universities Leading the Way” panel on Nov. 12 as well as the Global Seminar Series presented by Poole College on Nov. 17.
- Lewis Sheats, assistant vice provost of entrepreneurship, presented “Developing an Entrepreneurial Mindset in an Everchanging Economy” for the American Chamber of Commerce in Gibraltar in conjunction with Startup Grind Gibraltar.
- Heather Dretcsh, assistant professor of marketing, and Roby Sawyers, professor of accounting, were presented with the Outstanding Teaching Award for the 2019-20 academic year.
- Decision Science Journal named two papers written by Rob Handfield, professor of operations and supply chain management, No. 10 and No. 18 of the top 20 most cited publications in the last 50 years.
- Ellen Frost, associate director of global programs, submitted two post presentations for the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors (NAFSA) Region VII Conference where Mariah Henderson, a graduate assistant in the Office of Global Programs, won a case competition on the challenges a university faces in international education.
