Poole Alumnus ’21 Applies Global Learning to Career at BioMerieux

Logan Smith graduated from Poole College of Management in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration and a Bachelor of Arts in international business as well as a new global career with BioMerieux, a French biotechnology company. Smith was a part of the International Business Dual Degree (IBDD) Program in partnership with the NEOMA Business School in France.

Smith was drawn to NC State, specifically Poole College, because of the extensive international opportunities. Through the IBDD Program, Smith was able to quench his thirst for international knowledge and engagement and land an internship at BioMerieux after his sophomore year.

“BioMerieux was on my radar because they had previously hired another IBDD alumna, Sydney Swain,” said Smith. “IBDD Program Director Robert Sandruck encouraged me to pursue BioMerieux and jump on any opportunity they offered due to the French connection between the company and my planned academic path. Equipped with those tools, and some patience and resilience, I landed an internship position with BioMerieux after my sophomore year.”

Armed with my NC State experience, I feel a sense of responsibility to, like so many alumni before me and so many alumni to come, be a force for good in what is an ever-changing and increasingly complex world.

Today, Smith is reagent/packaging buyer for the BioMerieux global purchasing team. His responsibilities include managing U.S. packaging supplier relationships, driving global strategies for certain packaging commodities and leading projects to promote CSR and risk mitigation efforts.

Smith has been able to apply the NC State Think and Do spirit to his new career as well as his experience using new technologies and methods. He looks back fondly at his global experience, even though his study abroad trip was cut short by COVID, and sees its indelible impact on his personal, academic and professional life.

“I am most looking forward to joining an illustrious, accomplished and far-reaching alumni network at Poole,” said Smith. “As I continue to progress in my career and meet more and more people from all sorts of industries and backgrounds, I have come to realize that an NC State degree is synonymous with hard work and results. Armed with my NC State experience, I feel a sense of responsibility to, like so many alumni before me and so many alumni to come, be a force for good in what is an ever-changing and increasingly complex world.”
