Poole College Announces Roby Sawyers as Accounting Department Head

NC State Poole College of Management has named Roby Sawyers, professor of accounting, as the head of the department of accounting effective July 1. Sawyers will be taking over for Kathy Krawcyk, professor of accounting, who has held the position since 2020.

Sawyers has been with the college since 1989 as a professor and director of the undergraduate accounting program. As department head, he will be responsible for the administration of the department and provide leadership over departmental activities working closely with Dean Frank Buckless. Sawyers will also represent the department in college and university-level planning and strategy development, manage performance evaluations and perform curriculum assessments and revisions.

Roby Sawyers has demonstrated leadership in accounting undergraduate education and industry connections during his tenure at Poole College.

During his time at Poole College, Sawyers has also served as a visiting and adjunct professor at other institutions including the Kenan Flagler Business School, North Carolina Central University, SKEMA Business School and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. He is also a certified public accountant (CPA) and has experience consulting for AICPA National Tax Education Program, KPMG, Dixon Hughes Goodman, McGladrey & Pullen LLP, PricewaterhouseCoopers, BDO Seidman and various local organizations.

Sawyers holds a PhD from Arizona State University as well as a Master of Accounting from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
