The Jenkins Master of Accounting<\/a> (MAC) Program at the North Carolina State University Poole College of Management has launched the Accelerated Summer Accounting Prerequisite (ASAP<\/a>) Program, an optional five-week summer program for students admitted to the MAC Program with undergraduate studies in fields other than accounting.<\/p>\n

The ASAP Program\u2019s compact modules \u2013 each lasting from two to five days \u2013 will provide participating students fundamental undergraduate accounting coursework necessary for the Jenkins MAC Program\u2019s core courses and electives, said Dr. Kathy Krawczyk, Dixon Hughes Professor and Jenkins MAC Program director.<\/p>\n

\u201cStudents will receive hands-on teaching from highly qualified faculty in Poole College\u2019s Department of Accounting,\u201d Krawczyk said. The small classroom enrollment \u2013 with 15 to 20 students \u2013 will enhance the learning experience, she said.<\/p>\n

The non-credit ASAP Program includes 24 class days held over five weeks, from May 15 through June 16, covering topics that include financial accounting, managerial accounting, business law, risk and assurance and an introduction to income tax preparation.<\/p>\n

Class sessions are held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Students will need to pass a proficiency exam for the course content prior to beginning the ASAP Program. An online tutorial will be provided to help students prepare for the exam. Students also will need to pass a proficiency exam after each module in order to be eligible for MAC Program coursework.<\/p>\n

\u201cNon-accounting students who complete the ASAP Program will gain the foundation needed to complete the required number of graduate accounting course credits required to sit for the CPA exam,\u201d Krawczyk said. The NC State Jenkins MAC Program prepares students to sit for the CPA exam in North Carolina, she said, noting that the required number of graduate accounting course hours varies from state to state.<\/p>\n

Students completing the ASAP Program will typically be eligible to sit for the CPA exam at the end of their spring semester in the MAC Program.<\/p>\n

The total cost of the ASAP Program is $5,000, which provides six ASAP Program modules, online tutorials and proficiency exam assessment, and two events to kick-off and celebrate the completion of the program.\u00a0Students admitted to the NC State MAC Program who have completed undergraduate coursework equivalent to some of the ASAP Program modules do not need to take those modules. They can enroll in the remaining modules individually at the cost of $1,000 each.<\/p>\n
