{"id":12731,"date":"2019-12-03T15:10:36","date_gmt":"2019-12-03T20:10:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/poole.ncsu.edu\/news-new\/?p=12731"},"modified":"2023-01-23T13:27:32","modified_gmt":"2023-01-23T18:27:32","slug":"why-do-b-corps-matter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/poole.ncsu.edu\/thought-leadership\/article\/why-do-b-corps-matter\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Do B Corps Matter?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>B Corporations (B Corps) are for-profit companies that break the traditions of most companies by going through a rigorous transparent assessment to measure the impact on their key stakeholders. <a href=\"https:\/\/poole.ncsu.edu\/people\/jothomas\/\">Jessica Thomas<\/a>, lecturer and director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/bsc.poole.ncsu.edu\/\">Business Sustainability Collaborative<\/a>, said that stakeholders include employees, customers, communities and the environmental impact.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thomas believes that B Corps will satisfy the needs of employees who want to work at impact-driven companies and consumers who want to support businesses with sustainable business models.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIncreasingly, stakeholders are struggling to identify those companies that have truly embedded social and environmental impact into their business models,\u201d said Thomas.<\/p>\n<p>Today, industries are seeing more companies expressing interest in acting like a B Corp and becoming B Corps.
