Diversity Peer Educators facilitated workshops in Fall term 2016
Workshop I: Understanding Identity
To understand diversity we first need to understand where our own sense of self comes from. In this workshop we will explore the layers of experiences that create our “identities.” This workshop helps unpack the concepts of visible and invisible identity and participants complete their own map of how their sense of self is created.
Workshop II: Implicit Bias in the Workplace
Even when we don’t know it, some attitudes and preconceived ideas we have about people who are different from us affect how we respond and react to them. These attitudes that exist are unconscious and they can get in the way of really getting to know our coworkers. This workshop helps unpack the concept of “unconscious bias” and has activities for participants to practice seeing and removing bias in common work scenarios.
