Where is your hometown?
What organizations are you involved in while being a student?
I am the Publicity Chair for the Society of Human Resources at NC State. I am also a member of Women in Business and Muslim Student Association.
What internships have you had while being a student at NC State?
I currently have two internships. I have been the diversity & inclusion intern at Poole College since August 2018, where I help plan events that celebrate the unique identities of every student at Poole. I also just started as a marketing intern at LORD Corporation, where I assist the marketing team with tasks such as content creation, social media, digital marketing, and more.
What are your current plans for your preferred future career?
Currently, I am considering pursuing a career in advertising. I am interested in analyzing consumer behavior and coming up with marketing campaigns.
Why did you choose NC State and Poole College for your education?
I chose NC State because I felt it had a great community of students and staff that would build me up and encourage me to grow both professionally and personally. Poole College also offered many opportunities to get involved outside of class, such as clubs and events.
How has your experience in your specific Poole program at NC State contributed to your professional achievements and successes so far?
One thing that Poole College does is give us the opportunity to work on projects for various companies, which we can then show off to potential employers. For example, for one class project, I partnered with the local business, Nourish Raleigh, to analyze their marketing plan and help them come up with a better one. This is something that I have been able to talk about in interviews and prove my worth with.
What do you enjoy most about your time in your Poole College of Management program?
One thing I enjoy at Poole College is all the events they hold every year. These events gave me the opportunity to connect with company representatives and learn from them. For example, I was able to go on a tour of HanesBrands. These events really helped me develop myself professionally. By having all these opportunities to talk to business leaders, I gained confidence and other valuable skills that I can now carry with me into the working world.
What will you miss most when you graduate?
I will miss the people. I will miss being able to go talk to any of the advisers, career counselors, or professors and get advice from them. This is something that I took for granted until recently, but now I realize the value of having a dedicated mentor.
What advice do you have for prospective Poole students?
Take advantage of any opportunity that you can. Join clubs, go to events, and be involved. Poole offers so many great programs that can help students learn skills that they would not learn in the classroom but are equally as important.
What do you believe is your most interesting accomplishment since starting at NC State/Poole?
My most interesting accomplishment since starting at NC State is learning how to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I have always been passionate about graphic design, but when I started at NC State I was actually able to take classes on it. Now, I am creating graphics for Poole College’s Diversity & Inclusion Events that are seen all around the building.
What are your goals and plans for the future?
In the future I hope to have a job that I love and am passionate about, that also gives me the freedom/capability to travel around the world.
