Screening, Panel Discussion of Documentary ‘Change Comes Knocking’ to be Hosted by Poole College

The event will be held at Poole College on Monday, Feb. 21, 4:30 p.m. in the college’s Nelson Hall auditorium, 3400 Nelson.

This event is one of the college’s diversity and inclusion activities held periodically throughout the year and organized by Dr. K. Leigh Forell, advisor in the Poole College’s Office of Undergraduate Programs and coordinator of diversity and inclusion activities for the college.

“This film details historic efforts of local citizens to overcome poverty,” Forell said.

“During a time when segregation was the norm, teams of African American and White college students led efforts to fight for equitable housing and public services in their communities. This film chronicles the efforts of young Black leaders in Durham and other counties across NC. It also speaks to the systemic nature of poverty and the intersections of economics, politics and racism,” she said.

“Our panelists for this event are all activists from the Durham area, and Ms. Cerese is also from the local area,” she added.

“While working on this film I was continually amazed by the farsighted vision and bold commitment shown by most members of the N.C. Fund’s staff to facilitate real change in this state, even when faced with intense opposition,” said Rebecca Cerese, director and producer of the documentary. “I sincerely hope that the story of the North Carolina Fund can inspire today’s college students to get involved in anti-poverty work and bring with them bold new ideas on how to attack this systemic issue that still affects so many people today.”

This event is open to the public at no charge, and no reservations are required.
