Seven Poole College Teams Advance to Finals in Lulu eGames LIVE
Finalists in the 2017 Lulu eGames – NC State’s largest startup competition – includes seven teams with Poole College students. The winners will be announced at the Lulu eGames finals being held 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, in the Stewart Theatre at the Talley Student Union. Renee Chou, three-time Emmy-award winning anchor/reporter for WRAL-TV News, will emcee the Lulu eGames LIVE.
A total of 192 teams had entered the first round of the competition, which was held on February 20. That round, which includes students from 10 out of NC State’s 12 colleges, narrowed the field to seven finalists in each category except the new venture category; nine finalists were selected in that category.
The finalists had submitted a 10-page business plan and pitched their startups to a panel of judges on April 7. The winners will be announced during a live event this Thursday, April 20, at 6:00 p.m. at the Stewart Theatre, on the second floor of the Talley Student Union. The finalists will give a two-minute pitch during this event, and the audience will be text voting for the team that will win the $1,000 Audience Choice award.
The Lulu eGames will award more than $100,000 in prize money across six different categories, including the Daugherty Endowment category for companies who have licensed NC State intellectual property and the Social Impact category for students building new ventures that use business as a force for social and environmental change.
The annual competition is sponsored by Lulu.com in partnership with the NC State Entrepreneurship Initiative.
The Talley Student Union is located at 2610 Cates Avenue in Raleigh. Additional information about the event is available at ei.ncsu.edu/egames.
