Poole College Welcomes More Than 1,000 New Students
The NC State Poole College of Management welcomed nearly 800 undergraduate students and just over 400 graduate students this week.
“It’s always exciting to meet and welcome our new students – and to enjoy the energy they bring – during orientation and Welcome Week activities,” said Tamah Morant, associate dean for undergraduate programs and teaching professor of economics. “We are eager to help them craft a path for their time here at Poole College,” she said. Morant elaborated on that message in this video for new students.
Steve Allen, associate dean for graduate programs and research, also extended his welcome to new students. “I have enjoyed the opportunity to meet our new students at our graduate management program events this past week,” he said.
Who are our new students?
Undergraduate Programs
Incoming First-Year Students: 496 students, up from 407 last year.
First-year students come to Poole College with an average SAT score of 1277 and ACT score of 27. Twenty-five percent of the students graduated in the top 10 percent of their classes, and 129 represent first generation college students.
In addition, nearly 200 undergraduate students from institutions outside of NC State and more than 100 undergraduates from colleges across the university transferred into Poole College.
Jenkins Master of Accounting
Incoming Class: 122 full-time students, up from 100 last year, and three part-time students.
Nearly 40 percent of the 2018 MAC cohort received their undergraduate degrees at another university, representing 28 other universities in North Carolina and 14 other states. Of these, 100 received undergraduate degrees in accounting; 10 have other undergraduate business degrees, and 12 have undergraduate degrees in non-business disciplines.
Jenkins Master of Business Administration
Incoming Classes: 49 full-time; 83 professional evening; 88 professional online. The full-time students reported an average of five years’ work experience; the professional evening students, 9.5 years’ experience; professional online, 10.5 years’ experience.
Jenkins Global Luxury and Management
Incoming Class: 40 students in the dual-degree program with SKEMA Business School. The students come from five countries: India, Vietnam, U.S., France and Italy.
Master in Economics
Total New Student Enrollment: 12 students; seven from North Carolina, and five from outside of the United States.
Doctoral Program in Economics
Total New Student Enrollment: 19 students; three from U.S. states other than North Carolina, and 16 are from seven other countries.
While classes just started, it’s not too soon for students to connect with the college’s career staff and prepare for upcoming career opportunities. Many Poole College students have a new place to meet with their career advisors: an updated Poole College of Management Career Center was created this summer on the first floor of Nelson Hall. The new center is home to career staff and includes dedicated space for recruiters, including new interview rooms. MAC students will still find their career management support in the third-floor MAC office suite, and graduate economics students will find their career management support in the fourth-floor Graduate Economics Program office.
Classes are now under way and Wolfpack Welcome Week is in full swing. Here is a full event schedule, including Packapalooza, taking place for Saturday, August 19, from 2 to 10 p.m. on Hillsborough Street.
