Lea is from Shelby, NC. She graduated December 2017 Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in human resource management. Lea completed a minor in international studies and studied abroad summer 2017 in Peru. She was inducted into the Tau Sigma Honor Society at NC State and was the recipient of the Dr. T. Ray Ruffin Scholarship. In addition to her academic accomplishments, Lea was involved in a number of leadership roles across campus, notably serving as vice-president, programs and events, and co-president of the NC State chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management. Lea also dedicated time to the Climate Reality Project Campus Corps and Peru EDU at NC State and completed Student Organization Leadership Essentials (S.O.L.E.) Training. She has also volunteered in her local community with House of Hope and Habitat for Humanity. Lea is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and recipient of the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. 

Why did you chose Poole for your education?

I was looking for a local college that offered a concentration in human resources.

What did you enjoy most about your time in your Poole College of Management program?

I enjoyed the Society for Human Resource Management chapter with Poole and Professors Podurgal, Ritter, and Mulvey.

What do you miss most now that you have graduated?

The supportive atmosphere of Poole College at NC State.

What are a few of the most impactful classes/lessons you learned during your time at Poole?

That I was more powerful and knowledgeable than I gave myself credit.

What advice would you give for prospective and current students who are interested in your industry/profession?

Connect with like-minded people on LinkedIn and ask lots of questions!

What advice do you have for prospective Poole students?

The faculty and staff will do everything in their power to help you, if you only ask.

Could you give a brief explanation of your current line of work, and what has led you to it?

I began volunteering with Raleigh Rescue Mission, conducting mock interviews and resume reviews for their Jobs for Life participants. The management eventually offered me a consulting position to create business resumes for them!

What do you believe is your most interesting accomplishment since graduation?

Being offered a consulting position to create business resumes for Raleigh Rescue Mission Jobs for Life participants.

What are your goals and plans for the future?

I plan on working in HR manufacturing.

I can’t imagine a better place to get my degree than PCOM! My entire experience was great.
