Why did you choose to study abroad?

I knew that I wanted to study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country. I did some research into different programs and the program in Quito, Ecuador, was the best fit for me. It was a small program and it also had a service component–I taught fourth grade English at a local public school when I was there. I was also excited to live with a host family and attend classes fully in Spanish to develop my language fluency.

What was the highlight of your study abroad experience?

There are so many! The relationships I formed with my host family; we are still very close today. The friendships I made with students from around the world. The beauty of Ecuador and the places I was able to visit while I was there are some of the many highlights.

How has your study abroad experience continued to impact you?

I learned so much while abroad that I still use today–the appreciation for different cultures and perspectives, the ability to adapt and learn in new situations, and the friendships I made that are still so important to me today.

What would you say to students who are interested in engaging globally?

Go! It will change you and help you grow in so many ways.
