NC State AMA Chapter Hosts 4th Annual Regional Conference
The American Marketing Association (AMA) chapter, housed in the Poole College of Management, hosted its 4th annual regional conference on Saturday, Feb. 19, in McKimmon Center with the theme Lead, Learn, Succeed. Students from the NC State AMA chapter, SKEMA Business School and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater attended the conference featuring speakers from companies including Kellogg’s, Meta and Microsoft.
Over 100 attendees of the conference participated in three competitions: Perfect Pitch, Marketing Strategy and Digital Marketing. Each competition featured a case study from companies including Cisco Systems, State Farm and Kellogg’s with real-world issues impacting their business. The top three participants in each competition were awarded a share of the $2,000 prize fund.
The top participants of this year’s competitions included eight Poole students: Sara Roe, junior in marketing; Naishadha Peri, senior in business administration; Issa Tuli, senior in marketing; Elexandra Lentz, junior in marketing; Allesia Rojas Lemus, junior in marketing; and Anthony Jackson, junior in marketing.
This year’s competition received a great response from participants across all universities. Dakota Fiebranz, a top participant in the digital marketing competition from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, considered the conference one of his favorite moments.
“I can’t thank this organization enough for providing this opportunity to us”, said Fiebranz.
The fourth annual conference was a success among both students and faculty mentors. Patrice Nealon, senior lecturer in marketing, attributed this year’s achievements to the conference committee, who began preparations six months prior to the conference date. The conference committee, made up of 11 student leaders, was created and led by Jessica Clarke, a Poole junior and president of the NC State AMA chapter, who praised her team’s fantastic work.
We were able to communicate the value of this conference, connecting students to employers who are interested in them, and set them up for success.
“We were able to communicate the value of this conference, connecting students to employers who are interested in them, and set them up for success,” said Clarke.
“There was also an unplanned synergy among speakers with a shared message about branding/storytelling,” said Nealon. “The audience was totally engaged throughout the day by each speaker’s ability to tell a story and their willingness to tell the whole story.”
The NC State AMA Chapter is a professional development organization that allows all students, regardless of major, to get involved by attending bi-weekly meetings in Nelson Hall. Each meeting consists of a presentation from an industry professional with a variety of topics related to marketing, networking, resume building, and preparing for the workforce after college. AMA also offers other programs and workshops such as its Linkedin workshop and its mentorship program.
Through its emphasis on professional development and meaningful connections, AMA empowers NC State students to achieve the careers of their dreams.
The NC State AMA chapter is advised by Nealon and Tom Byrnes, senior lecturer in marketing.
The AMA plays a key role in the personal and professional development of students by solidifying the message that you’re still capable of being successful in fighting for your dream job.
