A Summer In Action: 2023 Full-Time MBA Internships

Explore what 17 of our full-time students did for their summer internships in 2023, including where they traveled, what they enjoyed most about the experiences and why they think it will better prepare them to reach their career goals.

Nicole Artero

Meet Nicole Artero! Nicole is a full-time student completing a concentration in financial management and a certificate in supply chain management. Nicole chose this concentration and certificate because she felt it would build well upon her undergraduate degree in financial engineering and provide a more comprehensive skill set. Nicole’s career goal is to excel as a financial analyst.

This summer, Nicole chose to be a budget intern at the NC State Poole College of Management. She managed budgets across diverse projects, closely collaborating with unit leads to ensure meticulous reporting and balance maintenance. Nicole’s favorite professional experience during her internship was contributing to the development of the FY24 budget; her personal highlight was creating a comprehensive dashboard in Smartsheet. This Smartsheet improved the college’s budget tracking, problem identification abilities and proactive response initiatives. Nicole also gained valuable experience processing journal voucher transactions to adjust accounts and ensure accurate financial records.

Nicole considers herself fortunate that her internship was in Raleigh, allowing her to seamlessly collaborate with her coworkers via face-to-face interactions while remaining close to her family.

Josias Charles

Meet Josias Charles! Josias is a full-time student completing a concentration in finance management. Josias has been an air transportation specialist in the United States Air Force for the past four years. His goal in the military is to commission and help develop Air Force training policy and standards. Outside of the military, Josias aims to create financial programs that benefit low-income families.

This summer, Josias chose to be a strategy and management associate intern at Bank of America, where he has gained experience in digital technologies, fintech, strategy, innovation and management. Josias helps drive strategic growth initiatives across core business units by developing, testing, launching and operating new strategies to serve clients better. Josias enjoys how his internship has allowed him to network with Bank of America leaders and apply learned concepts in real-world applications.

Josias’s internship took him to Charlotte, where he enjoys the diverse food scene. He also relishes living in a city where he can walk to most of his desired destinations.

Josias is a valued member of the Jenkins MBA Student Association.

Blake Finkenbeiner

Meet Blake Finkenbeiner! Blake is a full-time student completing concentrations in finance management and technology, entrepreneurship and commercialization (TEC); as well as a certificate in data analytics. Blake hopes to become a consultant. He believes the combination of finance and technology are paramount to solving modern day and future challenges.

This summer, Blake chose to be a value and access intern at Gilead Sciences where he analyzes drug launches in the international market, supports the transition of Gilead’s ERP system from Oracle to SAP and creates frameworks and SOP’s for the global value and access knowledge hub for the purpose of modernizing the system. He enjoys the significant learning opportunities the internship has provided.

Blakes’s internship has allowed him to stay in Raleigh; he credits his short commute for helping him easily transition from school to his internship.

Blake is president of the Jenkins MBA Finance Club as well as president of the Jenkins MBA Case Competition Club. He is also a valued member of the Jenkins MBA Student Association.

Tyrique Gaines

Meet Tyrique Gaines! Tyrique is a full-time student completing concentrations in marketing and innovation management as well as certificates in finance and business analytics. Tyrique previously spent four years in the army where he achieved the rank of E4. Tyrique’s ultimate career goal is to reach the C- suite level of a competitive organization. Tyrique’s desires have led him to choose concentrations and certificates in multiple fields as he believes a variety of skills are necessary to best understand the various aspects of a business.

This summer, Tyrique chose to be a financial leadership program intern at Fidelity Investments where he analyzes competitor product fees and flows to determine how competitive Fidelity’s products are within their peer groups. Tyrique then performs re-pricing recommendations to ensure products gain market share, followed by conducting financial planning and analysis for multi-year plans, visualizing the data into a comprehensive story via power BI. Tyrique enjoys the project management aspect of his role, which allows him to build his task prioritization skills, helping him to meet deadlines when working on multiple projects.

Tyrique’s internship has taken him to Boston, MA where he enjoys being able to attend sporting events year-round. He is also allowed to travel during his internship, spending a week working in Hawaii.

Tyrique sits on the Jenkins MBA Student Association board as the graduate student association representative.

Kate Hedgecock

Meet Kate Hedgecock! Kate is a full-time student completing a marketing concentration and a certificate in data analytics. Her goal is to use these credentials to create enhanced customer profiles, thus better understanding the customer and their needs.

This summer, Kate chose to be a Merchandise Operations intern at Walmart where she enjoys the process of forecasting. Kate is spending her summer gathering data via SQL queries, processing said data in Microsoft Power BI, then using the outcomes to create informed customer profiles and forecasts.

Kate’s internship has allowed her to return to her hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas. She greatly enjoys the time this has allowed her to spend with her family and her dog Tucker. Kate sits on the Jenkins MBA Student Association board as one of our two valued event planners.

Ian Im

Meet Ian Im! Ian is a full-time student completing a concentration in supply chain management. Ian previously spent eight years in the US Army reaching first lieutenant and is currently in the United States Army Reserve. During his time in the Army, Ian became interested in creating efficient operating systems, and he hopes to work for a company focused on supply chain optimization.

This summer, Ian chose to be a human resources graduate intern at Nike in Beaverton, Oregon, where he is working to improve recruiting for retail, distribution centers and manufacturing. Specifically, he is developing a comprehensive reporting system that has the ability to make informed decisions regarding high-volume recruiting strategies. Ian is enjoying the strategic meetings where he is asked to provide valuable insight to Nike’s human resource leaders.

Ian is enjoying the opportunity to play disc golf in his free time on the gorgeous courses found in Oregon.

Ian also sits on the Jenkins MBA Student Association board as the communications chair.

Kofi Kwateng-Yeboah

Meet Kofi Kwateng-Yeboah! Kofi is a full-time MBA student, a valued member of the Jenkins Finance Club, and is completing a finance concentration with a certificate in data analytics.

This summer, Kofi is a payment finance intern at Google, where he enjoys working within Big Tech and the new era of AI. Kofi regularly performs market research, participates in financial planning and strategy discussions, conducts financial analysis, models scenarios, and provides recommendations where he leverages data to create compelling cases.

Thanks to Kofi’s internship, he is currently spending the summer in San Francisco, where he visits various tech companies, attends tech events, and connects with professionals in the industry. Kofi’s also thankful for the opportunity to explore the San Francisco sights.

Brittany Lenyszyn

Meet Brittany Lenyszyn! Brittany is a full-time student completing a concentration in supply chain management. Brittany wants to further combine her professional background in supply chain with her undergrad degree in finance.

This summer, Brittany chose to be a procurement and supply chain management intern at Chevron where she practices inventory and warehousing management by tracking POs, manages inventory in SAP, collaborates with category managers, and performs demand forecasting and planning. Brittany has been thankful for the opportunity to be involved in leadership engagement, ranging from mid-level managers to the CEO.

Brittany’s primary internship location is Midland Texas, but she enjoys the opportunity to work and travel to other cities located in Texas and California.

Mary Luse

Meet Mary Luse! Mary is a full-time student completing a supply chain management concentration and earning certificates in supply chain and data analytics. Mary wants to combine her interest in supply chain systems with an analytical background, which she believes is vital to a business’s competence.

This summer, Mary chose to be a senior associate consultant intern at GEP Worldwide where she collects and analyzes data, builds proposals, builds supplier RFPs and negotiates on behalf of clients. Her favorite part of the experience is using data analysis to create presentations and tell compelling stories that drive business decisions. She also enjoys learning by watching negotiations occur in real time.

Mary’s internship has allowed her to stay at home in Raleigh with her family; however, she enjoyed traveling to New Jersey for GEP’s training and orientation where she participated in social events such as Top Golf.

Mary is a valued member of the Jenkins MBA Student Association as well as the Supply Chain Club.

Michael McLaurin

Meet Michael McLaurin! Michael is a full-time student completing concentrations in finance and marketing, as well as certificates in data analytics and leadership. Michael’s ultimate career goal is to become a consultant within a field that challenges him daily. He believes this combination of skills will help him understand and solve various issues consultants face.

This summer, Michael chose to be a sales strategist intern at Infosys where he analyzes value chains of specific companies and industries, identifies current and future choke points within the system, and recommends custom remedies from Infosys’s arsenal of software. Michael enjoys that project managers allow him to actively participate in solution creation; he is most satisfied when a created solution benefits both Infosys and the client.

Michael’s internship is remote but also allows him to come into the local office. Michael enjoys the freedom this provides, as he is able to stay in Raleigh to tend to his garden, as well as travel while working.

Michael is the vice-president of the Jenkins MBA Student Association as well as the vice-president of the Jenkins MBA Case Competition Club, and a valued member of the Jenkins MBA Finance Club.

Humphrey Okeke

Meet Humphrey Okeke! Humphrey is a full-time international student from Nigeria completing a concentration in technology, entrepreneurship and commercialization (TEC). Humphrey’s choice of the TEC concentration was fueled by his desire to run a successful software company (he is co-founder of software development firm Radsystems). Humphrey intends to apply the knowledge he acquires from the Jenkins MBA Program in business environments developing new digital products.

This summer, Humphrey chose to be a technology commercialization consultant intern at Reselute under the North Carolina Small Business and Technology Development Center (NC SBTDC). Humprey’s inspiration for this decision came from his desire to support technology-focused start-ups seeking success in various industries. Humphrey performed a vast array of analyses this summer, including competitive pricing analysis, market & industry analysis, risk analysis, survey analysis and survey coding. Humphrey enjoyed learning the FDA approval process for a novel medical device, a critical step in taking the product to market. After approval, Humphrey helped develop and implement a go-to market strategy for the product.

Humprey spent his summer working at Reselute’s office in Research Triangle Park. Humprey valued the face-to-face team collaboration the opportunity provided, allowing him to expand his knowledge in product development and strategy implementation.

Asif Pathan

Meet Asif Pathan! Asif is a full-time international MBA student from Bangladesh completing concentrations in supply chain management, technology entrepreneurship & commercialization, and a business analytics certificate. Asif believes his areas of study complement his supply chain background and will help further his problem-solving skills. Asif’s ultimate career goal is to start his own consulting firm specializing in supply chain management.

This summer, Asif chose to be a technology commercialization consultant intern at the North Carolina Small Business and Technology Development Center (NC SBTDC). He works with government officials to understand the aviation security space, providing ideas for commercializing security equipment. To accomplish these tasks, Asif gathers and analyzes data about competitors, investor pitch development and patents.

Asif’s internship is remote but allows him to come into the office. He enjoys the freedom this provides, including the ability to travel.

Isabella Riley

Meet Isabella Riley! Isabella is completing concentrations in both marketing management and innovation, as well as certificates in leadership and marketing — all of which she feels will benefit her pursuit of a career in global brand management.

This summer Isabella chose to be a brand marketing intern at Kellogg Company, which has allowed her to spend the summer in Chicago. She believes this internship will allow her to sharpen her analytical skills and make a meaningful impact by leveraging data-driven insights to drive strategic consumer decisions.

When she’s not working, Isabella enjoys exploring Chicago’s world-class museums and art galleries.

Isabella is also a valued member of the Jenkins MBA Student Association.

Kane Roland

Meet Kane Roland! Kane is a full-time student completing an innovation management concentration and a certificate in business leadership. Kane’s goal is to be knowledgeably well-rounded in business as he believes it’s crucial in his pursuit of a career in management consulting.

This summer, Kane chose to be a management consulting intern at Cornerstone Advisors where he is specializing in digital transformations. Kane is spending his summer working on the comprehensive process of integrating digital technologies and strategies across all aspects of the institution’s operations, services, and customer interactions. He enjoys the opportunity to learn from his successful management consulting colleagues.

Kane’s internship has allowed him to stay in Raleigh where he can spend time with his family.

Avery Stemper

Meet Avery Stemper! Avery is completing concentrations in both marketing and innovation management due to his interest in continuous process improvement and relationship management.

This summer Avery chose to be a professional services intern at NetApp, where he enjoys working under the pressure of the major projects he’s been a part of so far. In order to meet tight deadlines, his team members travel to Raleigh from across the country to collaborate. They spend the week together focusing on their project, but also get to meet each other in a much more personal way. When he has a moment for a break, Avery enjoys the unlimited snacks and espresso while enjoying the view from his office. He also has the option of working remotely, allowing him to spend more time with his girlfriend and cats.

Avery will also be transitioning this summer from vice president to president of the Jenkins Queen! program, an LGBTQ+ professional development organization focused on developing LGBTQ+ talent and creating safe spaces.

Brett Tornquist

Meet Brett Tornquist! Brett is a full-time MBA student completing a concentration in finance as well as a master’s degree in accounting. Brett previously spent four years in the Marines where he achieved the rank of sergeant. Brett’s ultimate career goal is to gain a position in higher leadership where he can form financial strategies with the aim of leading his company into a prosperous future. Brett chose this educational path because he believes building a bridge between the finance and accounting departments is paramount to a successful financial strategy.

This summer, Brett chose to be a data analysis intern at CBRE where he saw an opportunity to develop skills writing code in Python and SQL. At his internship, Brett analyzes large amounts of data in search of notable issues, and then writes code to pinpoint these issues and create and implement successful solutions.

Brett’s internship is remote, and he enjoys how this allows him to share ideas and create solutions with his four-legged “coworkers.” 🐶 🐕

Yeimi Tomas

Meet Yeimi Tomas! Yeimi is a full-time student completing concentrations in marketing and innovation management, as well as a certificate in leadership. Yeimi chose these concentrations because they align with her career goal of working within a global marketing team. Yeimi would love to continue working on the branding side of a company and become a team lead.

This summer, Yeimi chose to be an enterprise services and public affairs intern at Citi. She works with the sports sponsorship team, tracking and documenting current and predicted industry trends. Yeimi relishes the opportunity to measure the impact sponsorships have in the amplification of Citi’s brand.

Yeimi’s internship is in New York City, where she enjoys activities like going to plays and ballgames. Yeimi also thoroughly enjoys the diverse cuisine of the city.
