Mark Beasley Named President-Elect of American Accounting Association Board of Directors
Poole College’s Mark Beasley has been named president-elect of the American Accounting Association (AAA) Board of Directors. Beasley, the Alan T. Dickson Distinguished Professor of Accounting and director of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Initiative, will start his three-year term at the AAA annual meeting in August.
“Mark Beasley’s election as president-elect of the American Accounting Association marks the culmination of a long career of service and achievement with the AAA and Auditing Section of the AAA,” says Roby Sawyers, head of Poole College’s Department of Accounting and FORVIS Professor of Accounting.
Beasley’s past awards and recognition include serving as president, vice president, treasurer and historian of the Auditing Section, winning the AAA Distinguished Contributions to Accounting Literature Award, the AAA Competitive Manuscript Award, and Notable Contributions to Auditing Literature Award, as well as the Auditing Section Distinguished Service and Outstanding Educator Awards.
In 2012, Beasley was named by the National Association of Corporate Directors as one of the “100 People to Watch.”
As founding director of the ERM Initiative, Beasley leads the organization’s efforts to help pioneer the development of this emergent discipline through outreach to business professionals; research, advancing knowledge and understanding of ERM issues; and undergraduate and graduate business education for the next generation of business executives.
Beasley is also a member of NC State’s Academy of Outstanding Teachers, the Poole College of Management’s recipient of the Board of Governors Teaching Award, and a member of NC State’s Academy of Outstanding Faculty Engaged in Extension.
The American Accounting Association is the largest community of accountants in academia. Founded in 1916, the organization aims to further the discipline and profession of accounting through education, research and service.
