Five Poole Students Won North Carolina College Media Association Awards

NC State’s Student Media outlets continued their streak of excellence, as they brought home 30 awards from the 2025 North Carolina College Media Association conference.

Three publications won best-of-show awards – Agromeck, Technician and Windhover – and students were recognized for individual achievements.

Hosted by Appalachian State University in Boone this year, the NC College Media Association conference is a chance for student journalists to showcase their best work and learn skills from some of the state’s best journalists, editors, and storytellers.

Student Media sent 34 students to Boone for the one-day conference. Keynote speakers were Moss Brennan, executive editor of Mountain Times Publications, who spoke about the challenges of covering Hurricane Helene; and Chris Moody, award-winning journalist who spoke about his experience covering national stories like the 2012 presidential election and the death of former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.
