Mark Beasley, professor of enterprise risk management and accounting and director of the Enterprise Risk Management Initiative (ERM Initiative) in the North Carolina State University Poole College of Management, has been appointed the KPMG Term Professor of Accounting.

The appointment was announced this week by Frank Buckless, Stephen P. Zelnak Jr. Dean of Poole College and is supported by a term gift from KPMG Foundation and KPMG Professionals. KPMG recognized Beasley at an August 12 event in San Francisco.

“The college is grateful for our long-standing partnership with KPMG and particularly for KPMG Foundation’s support of the KPMG Term Professor of Accounting,” said Buckless. “This professorship enables Professor Beasley to continue collaborating across academia and the private sector to conduct impactful research that guides enterprise risk management practices in organizations around the world.”

Beasley joined Poole College’s accounting faculty in 1994. In 2003, he launched the ERM Initiative as a platform for providing thought leadership about ERM practices and their integration with strategy and corporate governance.

His work in ERM extends globally, as evidenced by his service on the United Nation’s Internal Control Advisory Group that is helping the UN’s Controller evaluate the design and effectiveness of the UN’s financial reporting internal controls, and an annual global survey of risk conducted with Protiviti.

As a scholar, Beasley has published nearly 100 articles, monographs, thought papers, and books related to enterprise risk management and corporate governance. His research is published in top journals, including Journal of Accounting Research and The Accounting Review, and he serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals.

Beasley brings knowledge gained through his research and industry outreach and engagement into the classroom at Poole College, to educate the next generation of business leaders on this emergent discipline.
