Raleigh Engineering Firm Promotes Poole Alumna to COO

Lee Anne Nance was recently promoted to chief operating officer (COO) of Stewart, an interdisciplinary design, engineering and planning firm with five offices in North Carolina and South Carolina. Nance is a graduate of NC State Poole College of Management with bachelor degrees in business management and economics she received in 1983 and a Master of Economics in 1985.

Nance will be responsible for developing business strategies that will increase growth and success of Stewart’s practice areas. She will also be sustaining initiatives she began in her previous role as chief strategic officer and will promote the company’s culture, mission and values.

“As our executive leadership team continues to grow, the presence of varied backgrounds and expertise will help us continue to grow both our company culture and our business,” said Willy Stewart, founder and CEO of Stewart.

In 2019, Nance participated in the Poole HerStory celebration which showcased the careers of five Poole College women alumni. She was featured in the display on the third floor of Nelson Hall for her professional accomplishments and balancing her life as a mom, wife and a career-driven woman in a male-dominated industry.

“Having an advisor who is also a coach and mentor is a great gift,” said Nance as she reflects on her time at Poole. “My advisor for the six years I attended NC State, Dr. J.C. Poindexter, helped shape my path in life. One of my career goals is to pay this forward by investing in people the way Dr. Poindexter invested in me.”
