NC State AMA Chapter Hosts 2nd Annual Regional Conference
The American Marketing Association (AMA) chapter in the Poole College of Management hosted its second annual regional conference on Saturday, Feb. 8, in Talley Student Union. Over 100 attendees from five colleges competed in three competitions for over $2,000 in prize money. Representatives from several companies, including CISCO, Microsoft, 3Q Digital, Federated Insurance and the Zeno group, presented at the conference and also judged the competitions.
By focusing on personal branding and professional development, AMA offers much more than just being the marketing club on campus.
Students from the NC State University chapter, across campus and other universities participated in three events in digital marketing, market strategy and Perfect Pitch, an elevator pitch marketing yourself for a potential job. To determine a winner, the top five finishers of each competition present their final pitch on stage during the awards ceremony.
This year, eight Poole College students placed in the top three in each of the competitions. Those students included Nikita Anishchenko, Courtney Buhl, Jessica Clarke, Jake Brodeur, Svetlana Geshtovt, Liz Fieno, Chaz VanHouse and Dan Cusick.
This is the second year that the NC State chapter has hosted the regional conference and Patrice Nealon, senior lecturer in marketing, says that the chapter is looking forward to hosting the conference again next year.
“We are excited about continuing [the conference] in Talley next year,” said Nealon. “It was the perfect venue to host the day-long event. It is exciting to see our AMA host an event that brings together students from across our campus, alumni, students from other universities, members from the community, and employers.”
The NC State AMA chapter allows all students, regardless of major, to join by attending general, bi-weekly members meetings Tuesdays at 6 p.m. in Nelson Hall. Each member meeting covers a unique business topic and features a speaker from a different company that provides members the opportunity to network as well. The chapter is advised by Nealon and Thomas Byrnes, senior lecturer in marketing.
“The NC State AMA chapter impacts students professionally by connecting members with the skills and resources to obtain the internship or job of their dreams,” said Steven Crowell, president of the NC State AMA chapter. “By focusing on personal branding and professional development, AMA offers much more than just being the marketing club on campus.”
