Poole College Welcomes NC State Alumnus Michael Dixon to the Jenkins MBA Admissions Team

Michael Dixon joins the Jenkins MBA Program in the NC State Poole College of Management as the associate director of admissions and recruitment effective October 26. Dixon will be replacing Kimberly Holley who previously served for the Jenkins MBA team.

Dixon began his professional career in education as a high school Spanish teacher at Cary High School before traveling across the globe to Incheon, South Korea, to become a K-12 English teacher for a year. He then taught Spanish at Millbrook High School for two years after returning home from South Korea. He later transitioned to higher education by working in international and scholars offices at New York University and Columbia University for three years before joining the Columbia Business School as the assistant director of admissions.

He piloted a deferred enrollment program at Columbia with impressive results and his work with women and underrepresented minorities and training experience in international education is just part of what makes him a great addition to our team.

“We’re thrilled to have Michael as our new associate director of admissions and recruitment,” said Jen Arthur, director of admissions for the Jenkins MBA Program. “Michael brings valuable higher education experience from his time at Columbia Business School and New York University. He piloted a deferred enrollment program at Columbia with impressive results and his work with women and underrepresented minorities and training experience in international education is just part of what makes him a great addition to our team.”

As the associate director of admissions and recruitment, Dixon will be working collaboratively with the admissions team to drive strategic outreach, evaluation and yield-related activities for all Jenkins MBA programs. He will also be managing the recruitment strategy and providing extensive one-on-one contact with prospective students via in-person interactions, as well as via phone, virtual and email correspondence to respond to program inquiries and provide support throughout the application process.

Dixon received his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and education from NC State in 2009 as well as a Master of Arts in international education from New York University in 2015. During his studies, he conducted research in India, the Philippines and China.

Working for NC State in a role such as this has been my dream for quite a while, I’m very happy to be able to start such a wonderful opportunity!

“Poole has always had a reputation of bringing in some of the brightest young minds all around the world, and as an alumnus of NC State myself, I’ve always hoped to have the opportunity to support the program,” said Dixon. “I spent the last six years of my life working in higher education in New York City and knew that, eventually, I’d want to settle down long-term in North Carolina to be with my family and friends. Working for NC State in a role such as this has been my dream for quite a while, I’m very happy to be able to start such a wonderful opportunity!”

Outside of work, Dixon is an avid runner who also enjoys swimming, hiking, traveling, cycling, cooking and spending time with friends and family. He has run the New York City Marathon twice and is looking to 2021 to complete his first triathlon.
