Roby Sawyers Honored with the AICPA Arthur J. Dixon Memorial Award
Roby Sawyers, professor of accounting, was recently honored with the Arthur J. Dixon Memorial Award on Wednesday, November 18. The Arthur J. Dixon Award is the highest award given by the accounting profession in the area of taxes.
The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) announced Sawyers as the CPA who demonstrated true professionalism in the spirit of Arthur Dixon.
“I am honored to be one of only three faculty to receive the Arthur J. Dixon Award since its inception in 1981,” said Sawyers. “As an academic, it has been an honor to serve with many of the top tax experts from around the country on the tax technical and policy committees that I have chaired. I appreciate the support and mentoring that I received over the years from the tax professionals that I was fortunate to work with.
For more than two decades Sawyers has participated as a chair or member on numerous AICPA task forces, committees and Technical Resource Panels (TRP). Recently, he chaired the Tax Legislation Tax Force from 2012-2014 and since 2018 has been a member of the Tax Practice Responsibility Committee.
Arthur J. Dixon was a recognized leader in the profession, serving on various state society and AICPA committees, with a long record of service to the Tax Division, culminating in his chairmanship of the Tax Executive Committee from 1977-1980. Following his passing in 1981, the Tax Executive Committee established the Arthur J. Dixon Memorial Award in his honor.
“I also appreciate the support of NC State, Poole College and the department of accounting in recognizing the value of serving the accounting profession in this way. It has been a great learning experience for me and provided helpful resources that enhanced both my teaching and research,” said Sawyers.
