Poole Alumnus ’21 Receives Full Scholarship to UNC School of Law

Ryan Moore’s (’21) interest in law sparked during a contemporary law and justice course his junior year of high school and he soon became fascinated with the justice system and the wide range of career opportunities. Five years later, Moore is a Poole College of Management graduate with a Bachelor of Science in economics heading into his first year of law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law.

Moore found that economics and law go hand in hand in the Nelson Hall classroom as both seek to understand and model human behavior in an interconnected way and regulate the ways in which people cooperate and compete.

“Studying economics at NC State taught me to think critically about the interactions we have every single day, examining the incentives behind certain decisions to which I’d never previously given thought,” said Moore. “This type of thinking has already helped me on the LSAT (Law School Admission Test), but I am certain that this skill will be an important part of my legal education and legal career as I seek to understand complicated situations and cases.”

Moore is among the less than 2% of admitted students that the UNC School of Law offers a full merit scholarship to in-state students. Seeing the hard work at NC State and studying for the LSAT pay off was one of the most rewarding experiences for Moore.

During his time at NC State, Moore was a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon, Beta Gamma Sigma, Phi Beta Kappa and the University Scholars Program and held leadership positions in clubs such as Austrian Economics Forum and SPEL, all of which bolstered his law school application.

“Through my classes and extracurricular activities at NC State, I gained confidence in speaking, debating and discussing viewpoints, and in communicating with classmates and professors on assignments and projects, a set of vital tools in the toolbox of any law student,” said Moore.

Moore’s current interests are in business and international law but is going into law school with an open mind and plans to take the NC Bar Exam after graduation.

“I can tell you that I’ll enjoy wearing red and white to all the UNC home games against NC State while I’m up in Chapel Hill,” said Moore. “I look forward to forever remaining part of the Wolfpack and holding my NC State degree with pride as I search for career opportunities and network with new people in the near future.”
