Jessica Yinka Thomas Introduces Incoming NC State Students to Business Sustainability
Wicked Problems, Wolfpack Solutions is a multidisciplinary experience created by NC State for incoming first year and transfer students. Jessica Yinka Thomas, director of the Business Sustainability Collaborative, is among the 50 NC State faculty and experts contributing to the five-week course beginning June 28.
Students will learn about global change, its history and consequences through multimedia content, assessments and resources. The course showcases how the NC State community is working to solve these problems and provide opportunities for students to be engaged when they come to campus.
Sustainable business, urbanization, economic change, climate literature, and modern justice movements are just a few of the topics covered.
“To make sense of the world in which we live, we each need to understand the nature of global changes, why they are occurring and how quickly, and who they are most affecting,” said Thomas. “Sustainable business, urbanization, economic change, climate literature, and modern justice movements are just a few of the topics covered.”
Thomas’ session, “Redesigning Capitalism: Business as a Force for Good”, explores a new model of business, B Corporations (B Corps) and a global movement focused on redesigning capitalism in a way that uses the power of business as an engine to drive positive social and environmental change.
“The lecture provides incoming students with an opportunity to learn more about how they can use their power as a stakeholder and their time at NC State to transform capitalism in a way that builds shared well being, a healthier planet and an economic system that works for everyone,” said Thomas.
