Poole College Recognizes Faculty and Staff Accomplishments from September

The monthly accomplishments series celebrates the achievements of our faculty and staff in and outside of the Poole College of Management.

  • As of Sept. 27, Ayo Agunbiade moved into the role of associate director of academic advising for the Office of Undergraduate Programs, previously held by Jennifer McLamb.
  • Joseph Brazel, professor of accounting, presented “How do Audit Committees Support Audit Engagement Teams and Encourage Professional Skepticism? A Survey and Experimental Evidence” at the Workshop on audit quality in Milan, Italy.
  • Mehmet Caner, professor of economics, presented at NBER NSF Time Series Conference in Boston on Sept. 23. The presentation was titled “Deep Learning With Non Linear Factor Models”, a joint paper with Maurizio Daniele.
  • The Supply Chain Resource Cooperative (SCRC) conducted a workshop on procurement leadership for the US Air Force, hosting 20 Air Force contract officers. The three-day event was held in the James B. Hunt Library and the computer science building on Centennial Campus. 
  • Scott Showalter, professor of practice in accounting, presented at the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA) Accounting Education Conference and the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board’s Public Sector Standard Setters Forum. Additionally, he presented “Auditing Inspection Standards between U.S. and China” virtually for Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
  • Thomas Dow, lecturer in accounting, presented on integrating data analytics into accounting courses at the NCACPA Educators Conference on Sept. 23.
  • Haroon Abbu, adjunct faculty, has been named Data Leader of the Year finalist by Corinium’s 2022 North American Business of Data Awards.  
  • On Tuesday, Sept. 20, Don Warsing, associate professor of operations and supply chain management, served as the invited keynote speaker for the #InspireGrowth Meeting of Advance Auto Parts’ Inventory Planning Group held at the company headquarters in Raleigh.
