Rob Handfield Webinar on Vital Supply Chains in a Pandemic
Rob Handfield, director of the Supply Chain Resource Cooperative and professor of operations and supply chain management, served as a presenter for S&P Global Market Intelligence’s University Essentials webinar on the vital supply chains during the COVID-19 pandemic. Along with representatives from S&P Global Market Intelligence, Handfield described COVID-19 as the catalyst of supply chain redesign for organizations with a high dependence on China.
The four expert speakers covered the timeline of the impact on supply chain as well as the long-term supply chain disruptions from China, land to cost assumptions, diversification, potential U.S. Congressional mandates for vital products and supply chain redesign based on customer demands.
“The fact is that it is very difficult to be able to simply retract and move manufacturing from China to other places,” said Handfield. “The COVID crisis is part of a long stream of events beginning with the tariffs, duties and trade wars that have occurred and will likely continue to morph in to these types of discussions around localization of the supply base.”
The interactive webinar includes poll questionnaires and a Q&A section for live and on-demand participants.
