Richard Warr Named Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs

North Carolina State University Poole College of Management has named Dr. Richard Warr associate dean for faculty and academic affairs, effective August 1, 2019.

The appointment was announced today by Poole College Stephen P. Zelnak Jr. Dean Frank Buckless

“Dr. Warr has provided outstanding leadership in his year as interim associate dean for faculty and academic affairs, and before then as head of our largest department, Business Management,” said Dean Buckless. “He is an accomplished scholar, regularly publishing in top finance journals, as well as an incredibly effective instructor in both traditional and online classrooms. I’m thrilled to continue to have Dr. Warr as a colleague leading Poole College on our upward trajectory.”

Warr has been with Poole College since August 2002, during which time he has served as finance professor, head of the department of business management, interim associate dean of undergraduate programs, as well as interim associate dean for faculty and academic affairs. Prior to receiving his doctorate degree in finance from the University of Florida, he worked as a portfolio manager for real estate firm CBRE in London, England.

As a full-time professor of finance, Warr’s research focuses on how inflation impacts security prices and how the promotion of diversity allows firms to become more innovative. He is also an editor of the academic financial journal, The Financial Review.

Warr’s role as associate dean includes acting as the deputy to the dean in managing all aspects of the faculty for the college, including hiring, promotions, awards, research and scholarship, and faculty development. He also manages special projects for the dean, like developing policies and procedures and handling financial issues, and oversees the college’s global programs and sustainability initiative.

“I am excited to be working with the new dean to move Poole College forward to continue to be recognized as a leader in entrepreneurial thinking and analytical problem solving,” said Warr when discussing what he is looking forward to accomplishing in his new role. “We’ve made enormous growth over recent years and Poole College has become an internationally recognized business school.  We’re known for our applied and real-world approach to business education and our high-quality scholarship.”
