Patrick Flynn, assistant professor of human resource management, explains that many blue-collar workers moved on during the pandemic to further their education or to a role with higher wages. This trend now leaves businesses like restaurants and daycares scrambling to fill positions.

“A lot of those employees found ways that they could re-employ those skills in other roles,” said Flynn.
