Rob Handfield on the Effects of Expensive Plastics on Health Care

Because of disruptions in the plastic supply chain at oil refineries in America and the increased demand for plastic components used in medical devices due to the COVID-19 pandemic, production is decreasing while prices are soaring. Rob Handfield, professor of operations and supply chain management, further breaks down the shortage of plastics.

“We’re definitely seeing some shortages on types of plastic components that go into medical devices, and that’s a big issue at the moment,” said Handfield.
