Steve Allen Discusses Wake County Restaurant Closures

Since the start of 2024, at least seven restaurants have closed their doors in Wake County. Poole College Economics Professor Steve Allen joined Jeff Hamlin on the WPTF Afternoon News to explain that some businesses are still struggling to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted a sharp decrease in restaurant workers and other factors contributing to these closures.

“The restaurant industry is unique in a number of ways,” he said. “You compare the restaurant scene in Raleigh … the types of restaurants are totally different than before. Some, like the Angus Barn, can keep up with that change and adapt. Others have trouble.”
