Mark Beasley, professor of accounting, and the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Initiative found that 67% of surveyed organizations described the 2020 risk volume and complexity as “mostly” to “extensive” in the 2021 State of Risk Oversight. This is the highest rating since the initial survey in 2009.
“The combination of the COVID-19 pandemic, social unrest, and the uncertainty of the 2020 elections created an environment of ‘record levels of having to figure out very complex issues,'” said Beasley.
