Poole College Faculty and Staff Internal Accomplishments for July and August

The monthly accomplishments series celebrates the achievements of our faculty and staff in and outside of the Poole College of Management. Faculty and staff have worked tirelessly to finish out the summer and prepare for the fall 2020 semester.

July

  • Maria Potepalova spoke at the seventh annual Advanced Learning Institute’s Strategic Internal Communications Conference where she presented her seven steps to build an effective internal communications strategy. 
  • Eileen Taylor, professor of accounting, serves as president of a local non-profit, The Flower Shuttle, which reached 200,000 deliveries of repurposed donated flowers.
  • Beverly Tyler, professor of strategic management, presented her co-authored research at the Academy of Wine Business Research (AWBR) Conference. Her study focused on the importance of brand heritage in family-owned wineries.
  • Fay Cobb Payton now serves as a member of the Association of Computing Machinery, the International Education Advisory Committee, Sigma Xi, the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers, and the Health Systems and Diversity-Equity-Inclusion Committees. 

August

  • Mark Beasley was one of two academics presenting on the panel, “Learnings from a Study of ICFR MRCs”, for the CAQ Symposium on August 3. 
  • Joseph Brazel, professor of accounting, was recently asked to be a contributor for Forbes.com and was awarded a research grant by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Research Institute. This grant will support his research in relation to using data analytics to detect fraudulent financial reporting. 
  • Beverly Tyler, professor of strategic management, virtually presented at the Academy of Management Annual Conference on her co-authored research on how businesses should adjust their contracting knowledge by location. Tyler also presented research she collaborated with Poole’s Turanay Caner, associate professor of strategic management. 
  • Scott Showalter, director of the Jenkins MAC Program, was named senior co-editor of Accounting Horizons, one of three association-wide journals published by the American Accounting Association. 
  • Beth Ritter spoke at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)’s virtual workshop series and shared her research on the aging workforce she collaborate on with Robert Clark, professor of economics. 
  • As a part of the new Business Analytics Initiative, Rakesh Ravi, Paul Mugge and Bill Rand received an award from the Clinton Health Access Initiative to study the use of social media to discuss COVID-19 in Subsaharan Africa. 
  • Jessica Thomas, lecturer and director of the Business Sustainability Collaborative, hosted the 2020 Global B Academics Paper Development Workshop that aims to help the research community push boundaries in B Corp research. Thomas serves as president and board chair of B Academics. 
  • Tim Kraft, assistant professor of operations and supply chain management, was recently announced as co-winner of the Paul Kleindorfer Award in Sustainability from the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS).
