Bio

Dr. Eiman Aiyash earned her Ph.D. in Economics from Kansas State University in 2023 and holds an M.A. in Economics from Eastern Illinois University, graduating with honors in both programs. She is an award-winning scholar recognized for excellence in both research and teaching, with honors including the Best Graduate Student Research Paper Award, the King Mertz Distinguished Research Award, the Master’s Thesis Award of Excellence, the Thomas Teaching Award, and the Southern Economic Association Graduate Student Award.

Her research spans macroeconomics and monetary economics, international and financial economics, environmental and development economics, and institutional and gender economics. Dr. Aiyash’s work examines exchange rate pass-through, oil and commodity shocks, environmental sustainability, women’s empowerment, institutional quality, and the abortion–crime nexus, among others. She serves as the Main Auditor for Energy Economics (Elsevier), where she independently verifies the accuracy, reproducibility, and compliance of empirical results and code. She has presented her research at major conferences, including the Southern Economic Association and the Midwest Economic Association.

Dr. Aiyash joined North Carolina State University soon after completing her Ph.D., beginning her appointment in August 2023. At NC State, she teaches a range of undergraduate and graduate macroeconomics courses, including Principles of Macroeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Money and Financial Markets, and Fundamentals of Macroeconomics. She leads the NC State Fed Challenge Team, preparing students in macroeconomic analysis, monetary policy research, data interpretation, and policy communication, and training them to deliver strong, professional presentations for national-level competition. Through this work, she helps students connect classroom theory to real-world economic decision-making and develop the analytical and professional skills that make them strong candidates upon graduation.

Dr. Aiyash’s teaching emphasizes analytical reasoning, economic intuition, and the development of durable skills. She integrates economic theory with real-world policy applications, data analysis, and empirical methods. Her approach promotes active learning, clear communication, and critical thinking, preparing students to interpret evidence, evaluate policy arguments, and apply macroeconomic tools to contemporary issues. She is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
