Re-introducing Business Analytics

The Poole College of Management is deeply rooted in NC State’s history as a university that excels at science, technology, engineering and math. We are future-focused – taking an innovative approach to leadership and management education by emphasizing analytical problem solving and an entrepreneurial mindset.

One such example is the undergraduate Data Analytics Honors Program, a three-course program launched in the spring 2016 semester. By all measures, the program has been a success in providing students the foundational knowledge needed to fill a growing demand for graduates who can bring this vital skill set to organizations.

Following a faculty committee review of the analytics curriculum and decision to more closely align the courses with market needs, the program has been renamed: Business Analytics Honors Program.

“Leading this program and seeing the impact we can make on our students – from accounting to supply chain management – as well as for our corporate partners, has been incredibly rewarding,” said Scott Showalter, professor of practice in the Poole College Department of Accounting and faculty director for the Business Analytics Honors Program.

Applications are open and available on the program website.

The program is open only to Poole College of Management students who have completed BUS 340H and BUS 350H (or BUS/ST 350 with a grade of B+ or above), and have a 3.25 or better in major and overall GPA.

In addition to the two prerequisites, applicants must successfully complete:

  • BUS 443H | Business Analytics
  • BUS 458H | Analytics: From Data to Decisions
  • BUS 459H* | Business Analytics Practicum

*Students may substitute other honors-level practicum courses containing analytics content with program-level approval.

Students should email Professor Scott Showalter directly at data_analytics_honors@ncsu.edu with questions about this program.
