Academics

MIE 310 | Introduction to Entrepreneurship

Introduction to planning, formation, and management of entrepreneurial ventures. Fundamental business concepts and managerial skills applied to entrepreneurial ventures. Course projects support experiential learning of critical skills.

*For Entreprenuership Minors, this course can substitute as MIE 309*

MIE 410 | Business Opportunity Analysis

Issues and management processes related to the identification of new business opportunities with emphasis on commercializing new technologies. Students will analyze and develop individual plans for commercialization of a new technology or other innovation. New venture formation is the primary focus, but the processes and skills students develop are relevant to new product introductions by existing firms.

M 380 | Doing Business in the UK

This experiential course combines in-class learning with out-of-classroom experiences to learn how business is done internationally from multiple perspectives.

*The M 380 course fulfills 3 credits of the interdisciplinary degree requirements for all NC State students. In addition, it counts as an elective for the business administration minor.

Pre-Requisites

The MIE 310 course offered in the first part of this program is a pre-requisite for the MIE 410 course offered in the second portion of this program. Enrollment in MIE 410 is predicated on successful completion of MIE 310.

If a student fails the pre-requisite course and is not able to repeat the course before the start of the program, he or she will be required to withdraw from the program and the refund/withdrawal policy will come into effect. Exceptions to the refund/withdrawal policy will not be made due to a student’s failure to pass the pre-requisite course.

Academic Considerations

  • Students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher are eligible to apply for a Poole College of Management summer study abroad program.
  • All courses are NC State courses and the grade earned in the course will count toward NC State GPA.
  • Review your degree audit to determine how courses will count for your major. This program is designed for Poole majors, specifically those concentration in entrepreneurship, and those with a minor in Business Entrepreneurship.
